Seasonal Plant Nitrogen Use and Soil N pools in Intermediate Wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium)

چکیده

Intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium; IWG) is a perennial grass under development as grain and forage crop. Although IWG known for its ability to take up nitrate improve water quality, seasonal nitrogen (N) demand uptake by not well known. We measured shoot, root, production, tissue N concentration, soil mineral at multiple plant growth stages in 1- 2-year-old stands fertilized with various rates of N: (1) 80 kg ha−1 applied spring regrowth (spring), (2) 40–40 anthesis (split), (3) an unfertilized control. also calculated use efficiency biomass yield. Soil N, N-mineralization rates, concentration increased fertilization, lodging while root physiological (PNUE) declined fertilization. Seasonally, shoot maturity, PNUE was highest suggesting either that surplus allocated or more being produced per unit taken up. In the 1-year-old stand, during fall regrowth, levels were among lowest; however, total compared other sampling times, large influx organic between maturity regrowth. Based on our results, suited inputs avoid excess leaching into groundwater, but it clear has strong allocation patterns should be consideration recommendations best practices.

Comparison of wheatgrass (A. intermedium) and tall wheatgrass (A. elongatum) in transpiration viewpoint

Transpiration, as one of the components of hydrological cycle, has not been paid enough attention yet, while it is necessary for sound utilization of rangelands, mostly located in the arid and semiarid regions. The comparison of the different kinds of rangelands species in terms of transpiration rates provides range managers the required information to achieve optimal forage production for a gi...

Seasonal changes in leaf nitrogen pools in two Salix species.

Leaf nitrogen distribution pattern was studied four times during the growing season in a 2-year-old Salix viminalis L. and Salix dasyclados Wimm. plantation in Estonia. We measured the vertical distributions of leaf nitrogen concentration, dry mass, leaf area and light environment (as fractional transmission of diffuse irradiance, a(d)) in the canopy. The light-independent nitrogen pool was eva...

Factors affecting population trends of plant-parasitic nematodes on rangeland grasses.

The effects of environmental conditions on population trends of plant-parasitic nematodes were studied in experimental plots of five wheatgrasses in the western Utah desert. In a 3-year (1984-86) field study, soil water and temperature affected the population trends of the ectoparasites, Tylenchorhynchus acutoides and Xiphinema americanum, and the migratory endoparasite, Pratylenchus neglectus,...
